Kristin E. Mantyla has a lyrical, powerful voice with beautiful legato and brilliant high notes.
She was born in Iceland and grew up in Sweden and Iceland, where she began singing in the choirs of Langholtskirkja at an early age. She completed her vocal studies at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music in Leipzig with Prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth and KS Prof. Regina Werner Dietrich. There she completed her master’s degree with distinction in February 2024. During her studies, Kristin made guest appearances at opera houses in central Germany, including the leading role of Popowa in The Bear at the Theater Altenburg/Gera, the mother in Hansel and Gretel at the Brandenburger Theater, and performances at the Leipzig Opera, the Theater Nordhausen and the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. She also sang the role of Mercedes at the Ettlingen Castle Festival and the second elf in Rusalka with scene 12 in Dresden. She was one of five young singers selected for the ‘Opera Intensive’ programme at the Leipzig Opera in 2021, where she sang in the ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ concert. With her role as Marie in Wozzeck at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, Kristin ‘impressed not only with her lively, believable portrayal of Marie, but above all with her bell-like, expressive voice, which sounds beautiful in both the high and low registers.’ The Icelandic singer is also passionately dedicated to the song and concert repertoire. Her concert highlights to date include performances at the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Icelandic Opera, the Harpa Concert Hall and the Schlosstheater Rheinsberg. Kristin is a prize winner of Junge Stimmen Leipzig and a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Leipzig and Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Leipzig.
