Jasmina Hadžiahmetović was born in Sarajevo and has lived in Germany since 1992. She has worked as a stage manager and assistant director at the Staatstheater Kassel, the Stuttgart Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Salzburg and Bayreuth Festivals. She completed a Master’s programme in Arts Administration at the University of Zurich. She taught scenic instruction in musical theatre at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin.
Hadžiahmetović has staged operas and plays at the Tyrolean State Theatre, Halle Opera House, Trier Theatre, Meininger Theatre, Cottbus State Theatre, Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe, Komische Oper Berlin, Opéra Comique Paris, Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Zurich Opera House. Her theatre productions include Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children, Jean-Paul Sartre’s Dirty Hands and Saša Stanišić’s Origin. Her opera productions include Alban Berg’s Lulu, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Leoš Janáček’s The Excursions of Mr Brouček, Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, W. A. Mozart’s Idomeneo and Le nozze di Figaro, Sergei Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, Arnold Schoenberg’s Von heute auf morgen, Johann Strauss‘ Die Fledermaus, Richard Strauss‘ Der Rosenkavalier, Giuseppe Verdi’s Ernani, Otello and Aida, and Richard Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer.
For the Berlin Philharmonic’s education programme, she directed Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde and David Lang’s Crowd Out – A Composition for 1000 Voices. As part of Broadening the Scope of Choral Music, an initiative of the Rundfunkchor Berlin, Hadžiahmetović staged Christian Jost’s choral opera Angst at the Komische Oper Berlin.
The implementation of concepts with contemporary political themes is crucial to Jasmina Hadžiahmetović’s work. The conception and staging of „Erwartung_Nada“, a musical theatre memorial to the Bosnian War at Radialsystem V in Berlin, was an important and personal directing project for her.
Jasmina Hadžiahmetović was senior director and deputy opera director at the Staatstheater Cottbus. She was director of musical theatre and resident director at the Tiroler Landestheater until the 2024–25 season. Jasmina Hadziahmetovic is a freelance director and lives in Berlin.
