The American bass Ian Sidden has a wonderfull warm and deep „legato voice“. A typical „Basso cantando“.
He studied at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. He’s lived in Dortmund, Germany since 2013, where he has regularly appeared at Theater Dortmund in roles such as Dottore Grenvil in „La Traviata“, Masetto in „Don Giovanni“, Wagner in “Faust“, John Utterson in “Jekyll and Hyde”, Benoît in “La Bohème”, Besuffliput in the world premiere of Gerald Resch’s “Gullivers Reise”, Teo in Marius Felix Lange’s “Vom Mädchen, das nicht schlafen wollte”, Kaluna/Kanako Hilo in “Die Blume von Hawaii”, Zeliha’s father/Zeliha’s cousin Murat in “Romeo & Zeliha”, and as the Rooster Wild Thing in Oliver Knussen’s “Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen”. Concert appearances have included singing alongside the Dortmunder Kammerchor as the bass soloist in Fauré’s “Requiem” and Puccini’s “Messa di Gloria”. While he lived in the sunny southwestern US, he sang in a variety of roles and concerts including Count Almaviva in “Le nozze di Figaro”, Betto di Signa in “Gianni Schicchi”, and as the bass soloist in Handel’s “Messiah” as well as Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” and “St. John Passion”. He also worked alongside Tony award-winning playwright and director Mark Medoff in the two world premiere musicals “We Are Enron” and “Extinction: A Love Story” as well as Jigger Craigin in the Las Cruces Symphony’s production of “Carousel”.
