David Danholt

David Danholt, a Danish tenor, has a strong, young Heldentenor voice with a shiny top.
He was educated at the Opera Academy and the Royal Danish Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Léonie Sonning Music Foundation Scholarship (2005) and the Danish Music Critics Association Award (2008).
In August 2014, David Danholt won 1st prize at the 3rd International Wagner Competition in Seattle. Opera engagements have already taken Danholt to international theatres and festivals. He has appeared as Erik in „Der Fliegende Holländer“ at the Passionstheater Oberammergau (2017), in Seattle (2016) and Wisconsin (2014), as Eisenstein in „Die Fledermaus“ and as the Prince in „Rusalka“ at the Arizona Opera (2016). In 2013/2014, he appeared as Claudio in Wagner’s „Das Liebesverbot“ at the Leipzig Opera, in Bayreuth and as Arindal in Wagner’s „Die Feen“ at the Leipzig Opera. Danholt has sung the role of Walter in Weinberg’s „The Passenger“ in Detroit, Miami and Tel Aviv. Danholt sang Mozart’s „Requiem“ with the Copenhagen Chapel Choir of the Danish and the Radio Sinfonietta and Handel’s „Messiah“ with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. Other concert engagements include Dvořák’s „Stabat Mater“, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and „Missa Solemnis“ as well as Puccini’s „Messa di Gloria“, Handel’s „Judas Maccabeus“, Haydn’s „Creation“ (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Italy), Mendelsohn’s „Elijah“, Mahler’s „Das Lied von der Erde“ (Helsingborg). Current and future engagements include the King in the opera „The Cliff Islands“ by Norwegian composer Ole Olsens, Verdi’s Requiem (Jönköping), New Year’s concerts in Chicago and Vancouver and Missa Solemnis (Copenhagen). He has just sung Arindal in „Die Feen“ (Meiningen State Theatre) with great success. In autumn 2024 he will sing the role of Garcin in a newly composed opera based on Jean Paul Sartre’s „Closed Society“.
