Arnold Bezuyen
Tenor
– Project Management –
Arnold Bezuyen began his career at the theatres of Augsburg and Bremen, performing roles such as Pinkerton, Rodolfo, Turiddu, Alfredo, the Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, and Loge – the latter becoming his signature role. He made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 1998 under James Levine and appeared there regularly for over 18 years. His acclaimed interpretation of Loge has been captured in several recordings, including live performances from Bayreuth conducted by Christian Thielemann and from Naples under Gustav Kuhn. Further appearances in this role took him to productions in Essen, Los Angeles, and, in 2011, to the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Engagements at major international opera houses have shaped his distinguished career, including appearances in Amsterdam, Berlin (Deutsche Oper), Düsseldorf, Hamburg (Staatsoper), Paris (Palais Garnier), London (Covent Garden), Milan (La Scala), Naples, Barcelona, Lisbon, New York, Stuttgart, Tokyo, and Valencia. Following his studies in Amsterdam, he also appeared at the Vienna State Opera in roles such as Tamino, Cassio, Alfredo, Herodes, Mime, and Loge – three roles that continue to form the artistic core of his repertoire.
In the current season, Arnold Bezuyen can be heard as the Captain in Wozzeck at the New National Theatre Tokyo, in Peter Grimes at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at Landestheater Inssbruck and as Mime in Siegfried at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
Arnold Bezuyen has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Sir Andrew Davis, Adam Fischer, James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano, and Christian Thielemann. Alongside his extensive operatic work, he maintains a wide concert repertoire ranging from Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem to contemporary works, and is an accomplished recitalist with songs by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Strauss, and Berg.
